The housing association showed the way as a company

“When we were faced with a roof replacement at the Amsterdamgården cooperative housing association back in the fall of 2020, we looked at the options for solar cells that were integrated into one and the same roof solution. We wanted Solartag because of the appearance. A majority at the general meeting supported the solution and already in January 2021 the roof was ready to produce. The cooperative housing association’s 5 cadastral plots were combined, each apartment was installed with a sub-meter and now we have our own VAT-registered electricity company.

Our electricity is in principle free, but we all pay DKK 2 per kWh for operation and maintenance. We sell electricity to the residents, shared consumption, car chargers and to the grid. The additional investment compared to a conventional roof is well underway to be paid back, where we have already earned almost DKK 300,000 by the beginning of 2024. This will continue in the years to come until the roof is completely paid off.”

We can both store and sell

“With a total battery capacity of 220 kWh, we can stay supplied with our own generated electricity when the sun is not shining.

During the 3 winter months, when the sun is limited, we buy electricity from the grid during the night hours between 00:00 and 06:00, while charging the batteries for the rest of the day’s consumption.”

Note: Since the interview, the housing association has earned back their additional investment in just 3.4 years.
