“As an electronics engineer, I have a strong interest in tinkering with projects like this. So I had a good gut feeling about Solartag from the start. And in our situation, where we were already replacing the roof as part of renovating and extending an old Trelleborg house, it made perfect sense. We also considered the financial aspect of installing a Solartag, because it is more expensive than a regular roof. So it doesn’t make much sense to replace a roof if the old one still has some lifespan left. But of course, that always depends on a specific assessment.
We have chosen not to purchase a battery until we have a winter’s operation to evaluate the economics. But we have two electric cars, and our surplus electricity goes into them. So we drive for free during the period when the sun is shining. The house’s electricity consumption is of course prioritized over the cars.”
A new roof impresses
“When you are getting a new roof anyway, then it really makes sense. And it also looks very beautiful. Everyone who has come to see the house looks enthusiastic and says that it’s a beautiful roof. And when you then tell them that there are solar cells in it, they are very surprised, because most people are used to solar panels being something ugly.”
