Solar panels and sedum

“Our old half-timbered house had an old fiber cement roof, which frankly wasn’t very flattering. And for a long time, we’d wanted to get solar panels. At first, we considered installing them on a shed, but that was better suited for a sedum roof. So, we made a business case comparing clay tiles with solar panels versus Solartag. But clay tiles with panels wouldn’t match the charm of our beautiful old house.

That’s why our choice of Solartag was mainly based on aesthetics. We felt it was the solution that best suited the character of the house. We saw a reference project here in Jutland and were really impressed by the product’s durability and technical robustness.

Preparing the roof took quite a bit of work, since it’s an old house with no sub-roof. So that had to be built first, with a lot of leveling and adjustments. We did all the work ourselves, even though we don’t have a background in construction. Installing the Solartag system was actually the easier part.

We live in a central location, and many curious passersby stopped to ask what kind of roof we were putting on.”

Electric car in the future

“We haven’t purchased a battery, as we’re waiting for future electric cars to function as home batteries. That will further accelerate our return on investment. In addition, we’ve changed our consumption habits so that as much as possible is automated—for example, the dishwasher and washing machine are programmed to run during daylight hours.”
