With a solar roof, you can reduce your electricity costs. In the summer months, you can even be self-sufficient if you combine your solar panel system with a battery. This makes you independent of the power grid because you can use your own production instead of buying. If you produce more electricity than you consume or can store in the battery for later, you can sell your surplus electricity back to the power grid. This can give you a tax-free profit of up to 7000 DKK per owner of the house. Design your roof according to your needs
The roof tiles are available both with and without integrated invisible solar cells. This ensures that your roof can be designed with exactly the Watt-peak (solar cell performance) that makes sense for the consumption your household has. There is a minimal visual difference between a roof tile with or without solar cells, and it can actually only be seen if one looks at the tiles closely and from above. The active roof tiles are easily and invisibly connected on the back and then connected to an inverter that converts the direct current from the panels into alternating current used in the household.
What does a Solartag solar roof include?
When we calculate your project, all materials are included in the square meter price. There are no surprices. Our price includes Solar roof tiles, cuts, ridges, fittings, cables (including any extension cables used around windows, etc.), and routing to the inverter.
If you also buy a Xolta battery, a Xolta authorized electrician is included in the price. And all prices are of course inclusive of VAT.
Good reasons to invest in a Solar roof
A Solar roof differs significantly from conventional roof types. A Solar roof – unlike other types of conventional roofs such as tile, slate, felt, etc. – creates value from the moment it is installed, rather than losing value over the years until it needs to be replaced again. In other words, a Solartag solarroof pays for itself over a number of years, and one can easily calculate a positive return on investment: the additional cost of a Solar roof versus a conventional roof (possibly with solar panels on top) / the household’s annual electricity savings (this is, however, a simple calculation that does not take into account discounting and interest). On top of this, you can also sell the electricity you don’t use yourself back to the grid.
Tesla paved the way
The invention and development of the Danish-developed Solartag solar roof was a direct consequence of the highly publicized Tesla roof not being sold in Europe, and it still isn’t.

Aesthetics also benefit the neighbors
Traditional solar panel systems rarely complement a house, especially when they need to be installed around windows and other roof penetrations. Additionally, glare is an issue with the shiny solar panels, which can be highly disturbing, especially for the neighbors. It’s a bit like driving a car when the sun is low. This issue is eliminated with Solartag, which, thanks to a matte satin surface, does not glare at the surroundings, as solar panels and glazed tiles can do. Therefore, it also generally complies with all local housingplans where glare can be a challenge.
Solar roof makes sense if you are already planning to replace your roof
Many Danish homeowners have an old asbestos cement roof, which has been popular since its introduction in the late 19th century. However, in 1988, the use of asbestos fibers was banned. Old asbestos cement roofs from before 1988 are very hazardous to health and therefore must be handled with special precautions during removal. It is still allowed to remove asbestos cement roofs yourself, but there is new legislation on the way for this area. You can read more about asbestos removal HERE.
When a roof needs replacement, it’s a good idea to assess whether the current and future electricity consumption should continue to be covered by the grid. Because if there are more green investments in the future, such as an electric car or a heat pump, it’s a good idea to consider local solar production in the equation.
The benefits of a Solartag solar roof
A Solar roof has many advantages. First and foremost, it’s a roof that pays for itself over time. An ordinary roof doesn’t do that. And then there are all the other arguments that also set Solartag apart from other roofs:
Once the roof has paid for itself, any surplus production in the future will be pure profit. The roof also has a low CO2 emissions per. kWh – about 20 grams versus 150 grams (weighted DK average based on a mix – wind, fossil, water, nuclear, gas, solar).
Aesthetics play a big role for many of our customers. We are very proud of that. With its integrated solar cells beneath the matte surface, a Solartag most resembles a slate roof. As a screwless roof, it is significantlyfaster and easier to install – both for the carpenter and for the DIY enthusiasts.
The Solar roof is an approved building material, that complies with applicable standards – and it is adapted to Danish building traditions, so it fits with existing adjacent standard accessories such as battens, fascias, ventilation strips, etc.
Cutting plates and ridges are made so you can easily adapt the roof to your home, regardless of the number of penetrations or sloping angles, and the like. The patented hooks mean that the roof is essentially installed without screws. It is therefore also easy to replace a panel, if necessary.
A Solar roof is classified as a lightweight roof, which reduces the requirements for the subroof construction. It only weighs 14 kg. per m2 and is therefore lighter than most conventional roof types, making it suitable for older roof constructions.
Solar roof is Danish developed and produced in the EU. We have stock and can deliver with a few days’ notice. Additionally, we take back surplus goods so that you don’t end up with materials that need to be disposed of. Its a resource-saving roof.
With a Solar roof, you can produce electricity right where it’s needed, with almost 100% utilization, without burdening the power grid. When you produce your own electricity, you also don’t have to pay taxes to the government or high transportation costs to the utility company.
Local electricity production means minimal transmission loss of about 1%, as opposed to, for example, wind turbines and solar parks, where up to 40% of the produced energy is lost along the way to the consumer. Electricity from your own roof goes directly to the house’s consumption, and any surplus production is delivered to the power grid, generating income for the homeowners, tax-free, up to a maximum of 14.000 kr. year.

Charge when the sun is shining
With an electric car, you are independent of rising fuel prices. If you have or are considering getting an electric car, then solar panels on the roof are a really good match.
By charging at home when there is production on the roof, you achieve a faster return on your investment and further minimize CO2 emissions because your own solar panel system is not dependent on fossil backup, as the power grid typically is.
The future will bring a greater need for electricity
All projections point to a significant increase in electricity consumption in the coming years. This is due to the transition from fossil fuels to electric cars, heat pumps, etc. The current infrastructure simply can’t handle it, which means there needs to be massive investment in infrastructure, with large construction costs for the state. But in reality, these costs are imposed on us as consumers. These investments need to be recouped through increased taxes on electricity. With local production on rooftops, right where the electricity is needed, the pressure on the power grid is relieved and reduces the need to take more land from nature than we already have. We believe that solar panels should be on rooftops, close to where the electricity is used – that way, we can let nature be nature.
